Adding a new feline friend to your family is, obviously, an exciting time. However, the route you choose to acquire your furry family member is a more significant decision than you might think.

You could buy from a pet store or a breeder, but there are so many reasons to adopt your new kitten from a shelter or rescue instead.

Here are 5 reasons to adopt a kitten.

5. It’s a Feel-Good, Healing Type of Thing

Giving an animal a second chance at a stable and happy life can feel pretty good. Many of the kittens available for adoption were either brought in from the streets or came from a home that they knew but could not be cared for.

Although well cared for, they are likely scared and confused, especially if mom did not come into the shelter. Doing such a good deed can be incredibly healing as well.

4. Rescue and Shelter Kittens Typically Have More Human Interaction

Because a shelter or rescue is centered around the care of the animals and ensuring they are ready for their fur-ever homes, it means that they get plenty of human interaction each day.

These places generally have dedicated staff, so there are usually familiar friendly faces that they kittens see every day.

3. Less Chance for Behavioral and Health Issues
